Flowers For the 2019 Color of the Year
Pantone picked Living Coral for its 2019 Color of the Year back in December. We will see a lot of this color for weddings, celebrations and other events.
From Pantone:
“Vibrant, yet mellow PANTONE 16–1546 Living Coral embraces us with warmth and nourishment to provide comfort and buoyancy in our continually shifting environment.
In reaction to the onslaught of digital technology and social media increasingly embedding into daily life, we are seeking authentic and immersive experiences that enable connection and intimacy. Sociable and spirited, the engaging nature of PANTONE 16–1546 Living Coral welcomes and encourages lighthearted activity. Symbolizing our innate need for optimism and joyful pursuits, PANTONE 16–1546 Living Coral embodies our desire for playful expression.
Representing the fusion of modern life, PANTONE Living Coral is a nurturing color that appears in our natural surroundings and at the same time, displays a lively presence within social media.”
Fresh Floral Jewelry
In the January issue of Florists Review magazine, many influential floral designers featured floral work consisting of necklaces, bracelets, and rings all decorated with fresh flowers and succulents. It inspired our free floral class this month to show you how to create your own luxurious floral wearables and be part of the trend popularized by artists Francoise Weeks and Sue McLeary.
Add this skill to your repertoire so you’ll be ready for wedding and prom season to offer something right off the runway!

Floral Work by Flower Duet
Casey and Kit had a wonderful and busy 2018 and are always delighted when we see our work highlighted by our vendor partners and clients. Here are a few recent uploads by wedding planners and clients of our work from 2018.
From Instagram:
From one of our Brides:
“My wedding on December 8th went very well and everyone loved the flowers! You guys did a great job and we appreciated it. I am sharing a few photos from the professional photographer in case you want any of them :). Thanks again and hope you have a happy new year!” — Rikkie
In November of 2018, The New York Times featured American Photographer Abelardo Morell. It detailed his work inspiration and process that became our book recommendation this month, Flowers For Lisa: A Delirium of Photographic Invention.
From Amazon: “Best known for his surreal camera obscura pictures and luminous black-and-white photographs of books, photographer Abelardo Morell now turns his transformative lens to one of the most common of artistic subjects, the flower. The concept for Flowers for Lisa emerged when Morell gave his wife, Lisa, a photograph of flowers on her birthday. “Flowers are part of a long tradition of still life in art,” writes Morell. “Precisely because flowers are such a conventional subject, I felt a strong desire to describe them in new, inventive ways.” With nods to the work of Jan Brueghel, Édouard Manet, Georgia O’Keeffe, René Magritte, and others, Morell does just that; the images are as innovative as they are arresting.”
This is more of a coffee table or gift book and I am sorry not to have featured it before the holidays, but perhaps it would be a nice present for Mother’s Day or a budding artist in your life?
These photos are wonderfully inventive and it really sparks our minds that the life of a floral arrangement is not finished once it’s in the vase. It’s what happens after you make the flower arrangement that the magic arrives. When you bring an arranged bouquet of flowers to a friend or place it on a table at an event, it becomes part of a larger purpose.
So does each flower that is featured in this book.
Available at local booksellers and online at Amazon.com.
Why it’s important?
This is handy to have for any type of glue you will need to reuse in the future.
What do you use it for?
You will spread a tiny amount on the threads of the glue container before replacing the top. See this month’s class on “Floral Jewelry” to see how Kit applies it to her tube of Oasis Floral Adhesive.
How does it work?
The oil from the Vaseline will work to prevent the threads of the top of the glue tube from sticking when you open it again!
Is there a substitute that might work in a pinch if I don’t have that?
You could use a different type of wax or oil. Beeswax or Shea Butter might work, too.
Where can I purchase it?
Any store that carries groceries or a pharmacy or online.
