Make 2018 Your Year of Color!!!!

We usually reserve the end of our newsletter for our Flower Book Recommendation, but I am putting it near the top of this month’s news because I think we all need to embrace bright colors this year.

Ultra Violet Wedding Bouquet

Pantone Color of the Year 2018 — Ultra Violet Wedding Bouquet by Flower Duet. Photo by Kit Wertz

First, let’s talk about Pantone’s Color of the Year 2018 — Ultra Violet! It’s fabulous…luxurious…and pairs so well with other bright colors like green, yellow and orange as well as muted tones like mauve and gray. What is not to love?

From the Pantone press release:

Complex and contemplative, Ultra Violet suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now. The vast and limitless night sky is symbolic of what is possible and continues to inspire the desire to pursue a world beyond our own.

Enigmatic purples have also long been symbolic of counterculture, unconventionality, and artistic brilliance. Musical icons Prince, David Bowie, and Jimi Hendrix brought shades of Ultra Violet to the forefront of western pop culture as personal expressions of individuality. Nuanced and full of emotion, the depth of PANTONE 18–3838 Ultra Violet symbolizes experimentation and non-conformity, spurring individuals to imagine their unique mark on the world, and push boundaries through creative outlets.

Historically, there has been a mystical or spiritual quality attached to Ultra Violet. The color is often associated with mindfulness practices, which offer a higher ground to those seeking refuge from today’s over-stimulated world. The use of purple-toned lighting in meditation spaces and other gathering places energizes the communities that gather there and inspire connection.”

We know we will find some great inspiration for this color in the form of many flowers from Lisianthus, to Freesia, to Carnations, to Veronica!

Now, onto the book that inspired this Pop of Color

Flower Book Recommendation: Change Your Home Change Your Life with Color: What’s Your Color Story? by Moll Anderson

Moll Anderson is a life stylist, inspiration interior designer, color enthusiast and tv host. This is her fifth book.

In this book, she poses a series of questions to the reader to help find a path to color that will transform lives.

Change Your Home Change Your Life with Color is eye candy to the max! It is laid out in a way that keeps your heart racing, pages turning and truly inspires throughout. There are eye-catching photos of flowers and floral designs throughout the book to keep any floral designer happy.

After the inspiring pages, there is a color quiz in the back of the book to help you find your true colors. For example, Anderson asks: “When you buy flowers, do you like flowers that are all the same color or a mix of colors? If so, what color? What colors would you mix together?” and “What is the color of happiness to you?”

Ms. Anderson queries the reader: “If you could change your life in one weekend and clear out the cobwebs of your past with COLOR and a brush, would you?”

From Moll Anderson's book on color

Throughout the book, she walks you through how to make sense of color, understanding hues and then a plethora of inspirational photos, quotes, and advice for every color from “Energizing Orange” to “Uplifting Pink” to my favorite “Reviving Turquoise.”

And Ms. Anderson must have known that purple would take center stage in 2018, too with this richly illustrated chapter on “Enriching Violet!”

It can be a bright future for you in your home or workspace with the help of this wonderfully put together book. I encourage you to make it a gift for yourself and bring some much-needed bright color into your life.
