I was asked to rep­re­sent Flower Duet as a guest lec­tur­er at The Ban­ning Muse­um for its Cel­e­bra­tion of Ros­es Day on May 3, 2014.  The Rose Soci­ety dis­played their home grown ros­es and there was a lec­ture on grow­ing gar­den ros­es in addi­tion to my lec­ture on how to arrange with ros­es. Here are some pho­tos from that day.

About the Banning Museum

In the heart of Wilm­ing­ton sits a lit­tle-known trea­sure, The Ban­ning Muse­um. Phineas Ban­ning—entre­pre­neur, the founder of the city of Wilm­ing­ton, and “the Father of the Port of Los Angeles”—built the 23-room res­i­dence in 1864. In 1927 the res­i­dence, stage­coach barn, and the sur­round­ing 20 acres of park­land were acquired by the City of Los Angeles.

 Ban­ning House Muse­um is in Wilm­ing­ton just off of PCH. Tours are only $5.

 There were lots of good­ies to be had all involv­ing rose petals! I drank some won­der­ful rose petal tea!

Celebration of Roses 2014

All were wel­come to join every­one for a very spe­cial day in the gar­den! All par­tic­i­pants who brought ros­es from their own gar­den received a small gift for shar­ing. In addi­tion to Kit’s lec­ture and flo­ral design demon­stra­tion,  Glo­ria Lein­bach talked about “Why we cel­e­brate Ros­es.” There was a chil­dren’s activ­i­ty where kids could make their own rose petal pot­pour­ri. And a chance for all to sam­ple a taste of his­to­ry through rose tea & desserts.  Rose experts were on hand to dis­cuss ros­es and answer questions.

Kit Wertz Flower Duet Sign

 Kit Wertz of Flower Duet gave a lec­ture and demon­stra­tion on how to work with ros­es in flo­ral design along with oth­er flow­ers that can be eas­i­ly grown in a home garden.
Hydrangea and Lisianthus Centerpiece

 Kit cre­at­ed three designs for the work­shop and gave away the two that had the ros­es in them. This is the design she showed using the grid method.
