Last Sun­day, I attend­ed an all-day Christ­mas flo­ral work­shop at René van Rems in Vista, CA. Here is the cen­ter­piece I learned to make that fea­tured noble fir, Ter­ra­cot­ta ros­es, Black Mink Pro­tea, Vibur­num berries, Gum Tree leaves, gold-dipped seed­ed euca­lyp­tus, orchids, imi­ta­tion grapes and Alder tree catkins and cones.
 
René also showed us how to make a prop­er Christ­mas wreath from scratch using a wire wreath form and fea­tur­ing noble fir, juniper, Cotoneast­er berries, gold-dipped seed­ed Euca­lyp­tus leaves, and two kinds of pine cones.
Even though Casey and I spend a lot of our time teach­ing oth­er peo­ple how to make beau­ti­ful flo­ral designs, we feel it’s impor­tant to keep edu­cat­ing our­selves on flo­ral design. René van Rems offers a unique Euro­pean design per­spec­tive that you don’t find very often in South­ern Cal­i­for­nia. I high­ly rec­om­mend tak­ing a work­shop from him or attend­ing one of his demos if you can make the trip down to Vista.
