Ear­li­er this month, we taught a chil­dren’s flower arrang­ing class at The Hunt­ing­ton Library. The theme was Christ­mas dec­o­ra­tions and we showed each stu­dent with their par­ent how to cre­ate a minia­ture Christ­mas tree using leather fern and mini red spray car­na­tions.  Using a tow­er of flo­ral foam that the chil­dren learned to carve them­selves, they then cut up the fern leaves to cre­ate a mini tree. I got to try to make my own at home and so far it’s last­ed a good two weeks! With the left­over spray car­na­tions, I also made a large red Christ­mas ball that makes a great fes­tive cen­ter­piece. I placed it on top of shiny mag­no­lia leaves which are easy to get this time of year at the flower mart.
