Last week my col­lege room­mate Lisa was in Los Ange­les for busi­ness. She was stay­ing at the Viceroy hotel in San­ta Mon­i­ca. A very hip place to stay. I had made some deliv­er­ies of peony arrange­ments for some guests of Chanel a while back. As I pulled up, I won­dered what sort of flower arrange­ments they might have in the Recep­tion area. To my delight I found a thought­ful amount and well placed white Pha­laenop­sis Orchid plants.

They are ele­gant and classy, and avail­able for pur­chase more places than ever. If you are in the Los Ange­les area — head down to the Flower Dis­trict. Both Trop­i­cal USA and GM Flo­ral have a won­der­ful col­lec­tion for great prices. Buy the ones that have 1 or 2 bloom open and the rest still closed. Look for a plant that has two stems, instead of just one and last­ly, but sure the base green­ery is full, firm and not yellow.
