Flowers For the 2019 Color of the Year

Pan­tone picked Liv­ing Coral for its 2019 Col­or of the Year back in Decem­ber. We will see a lot of this col­or for wed­dings, cel­e­bra­tions and oth­er events.

Coral is already the IT col­or for 2019. Declared “col­or of the year” by Pan­tone in Decem­ber, prod­ucts are show­ing up through­out the stores from pil­lows to nail polish.

Fresh flo­ral jew­el­ry fea­tured in the Jan­u­ary 2019 Issue of Florists Review Magazine.

In the Jan­u­ary issue of Florists Review mag­a­zine, many influ­en­tial flo­ral design­ers fea­tured flo­ral work con­sist­ing of neck­laces, bracelets, and rings all dec­o­rat­ed with fresh flow­ers and suc­cu­lents. In Novem­ber of 2018, The New York Times fea­tured Amer­i­can Pho­tog­ra­ph­er Abelar­do Morell. It detailed his work inspi­ra­tion and process that became our book rec­om­men­da­tion this month, Flow­ers For Lisa: A Delir­i­um of Pho­to­graph­ic Invention.

From Ama­zon: “Best known for his sur­re­al cam­era obscu­ra pic­tures and lumi­nous black-and-white pho­tographs of books, pho­tog­ra­ph­er Abelar­do Morell now turns his trans­for­ma­tive lens to one of the most com­mon of artis­tic sub­jects, the flower. The con­cept for Flow­ers for Lisa emerged when Morell gave his wife, Lisa, a pho­to­graph of flow­ers on her birth­day. “Flow­ers are part of a long tra­di­tion of still life in art,” writes Morell. “Pre­cise­ly because flow­ers are such a con­ven­tion­al sub­ject, I felt a strong desire to describe them in new, inven­tive ways.” With nods to the work of Jan Brueghel, Édouard Manet, Geor­gia O’Keeffe, René Magritte, and oth­ers, Morell does just that; the images are as inno­v­a­tive as they are arresting.”

This is more of a cof­fee table or gift book and I am sor­ry not to have fea­tured it before the hol­i­days, but per­haps it would be a nice present for Moth­er’s Day or a bud­ding artist in your life?

These pho­tos are won­der­ful­ly inven­tive and it real­ly sparks our minds that the life of a flo­ral arrange­ment is not fin­ished once it’s in the vase. It’s what hap­pens after you make the flower arrange­ment that the mag­ic arrives. When you bring an arranged bou­quet of flow­ers to a friend or place it on a table at an event, it becomes part of a larg­er purpose.

Why it’s important?

This is handy to have for any type of glue you will need to reuse in the future.

What do you use it for?

You will spread a tiny amount on the threads of the glue con­tain­er before replac­ing the top. See this mon­th’s class on “Flo­ral Jew­el­ry” to see how Kit applies it to her tube of Oasis Flo­ral Adhesive.

How does it work?

The oil from the Vase­line will work to pre­vent the threads of the top of the glue tube from stick­ing when you open it again!

Is there a sub­sti­tute that might work in a pinch if I don’t have that?

You could use a dif­fer­ent type of wax or oil. Beeswax or Shea But­ter might work, too.
